Why We Do It
The kids in our program have limited resources at home as well as at school. Often their parents are struggling to work full-time jobs, learn English, and navigate life in a new country. 63.5% of the kids in our neighborhood live below the poverty line. That's 96% higher then all other neighborhoods in the USA.
Poverty and cultural barriers can often send kids down a dangerous and destructive path. We are honored to be an extra layer of support and care for these families by championing their kids!
Through tutoring, mentoring and leadership development you hold the potential to change the course of a kids life. The challenging obstacles they face today become the very tools they need to succeed when they have a mentor who believes in them!
"Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can possibly be." -Rita Pierson
Everything we do is centered around being present with people and having authentic relationships, because we believe presence matters.
"Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them." -James Baldwin
Our work is motivated by our faith in Christ, his example, and his words in Matthew 25:31-46. In this passage we learn we have an incredible opportunity to encounter Christ himself when we serve the poor and welcome the immigrant.
"Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me." -Jesus Christ
