Love that is Circular (Gifted Giver Part 3)

Each morning I read a meditation by Richard Rohr. He shared this quote this morning and it connected with what I'm learning about generosity. "In the freedom with which you freely choose to give yourself in love to the love that gives itself to you, in that reciprocity of love, your destiny is fulfilled, and God's will for you is consummated." - James Finely In her book "Bread for the Resistance" Donna Barber says, "If we get distracted by what [Jesus] is asking us for, we can miss the wealth of what he came to give us." It's when I...

An Abundant Life (The Gifted Giver, Part 2)

This morning I was reading this powerful story in the Bible about a woman who comes to visit Jesus and pours a very costly bottle of perfume over Jesus's head. The men in the room were appalled and called her act foolish! They shamed her infront of everyone. She could have used the money from that perfume to help the poor! The 'gifted giver' has the instinct that transcends the substance of the gift and in so doing becomes...

2019 Recap

We hope 2020 is off to a great start for you! After ten years of hard work in the neighborhood, we saw a number of good things bloom in 2019. I wanted to share some of them with you as we look forward to another year.   One of the big blessings and challenges was relocating to a new location right at the end of the year. Thanks to the generosity of Brookhaven Presbyterian Church, we moved our office, studio, and pop-up shop base to 1294 N Druid Hills Rd NE, Brookhaven, GA 30319. While we’re in a new office, our vision and...

Presencia Under Pressure

Presencia Under Pressure

If you walk into Presencia’s apartment during tutoring hours, you’ll see a group of Latinx teenagers doing something extraordinary.  With genuine affection and joy, they tutor and mentor students from the local elementary school. They joke with each other as they serve snacks and drinks, lean over homework assignments, listen to stories from the lives of their students, and read books aloud.  The joyful, united spirit in the room would be remarkable in any group of teenagers, but it’s especially striking here, in a troubled neighborhood where most families live under the pressures of poverty and racism....
