In the first two weeks of this school year, Wanda, Ruthie, our volunteers, and I all brought our kids. I was watching them interact with kids who speak other languages, who share different cultures, who think in different ways.
Seeing them build community across huge differences always moves me. It makes me feel hope.
Welcoming immigrants is good for public safety. It's good for our economy. It's a just thing to do in light of our history. It's a biblical priority. It reveals the health of our society. I've made all of these arguments over the years, and I believe they're true, but there is a deeper reality that keeps me engaged in Presencia's work.
To me, the most beautiful thing about being involved in Presencia is the deep joy of relationships with neighbors who are radically different from me. Our students are a gift in my life, in our community, and in a world where they will grow and live their lives.
When we invite our community to donate, volunteer, or follow our story, we do it because it's joyful, hopeful, loving work. We love our neighbors, we know the joy of caring for them, and we want to share that joy with you.
Thank you for following this wonderful work!
